 Known for its rich aromatic flavour and attractive colour, Chakhao rice is one of the richest source of antioxidants like anthocyanin. It has optimal content of vitamins, minerals, fibre, proteins, and many other nutrients.

 In addition to being a good source of vitamins E, fibre and protein, Chakhao rice is shown to reduce inflammation levels in the body. It contributes to the prevention and management of ailments such as atherosclerosis, diabetes, Alzheimer’s disease, hypertension, high cholesterol and even cancer.

Two varieties viz., Chak-hao ‘Amubi’ and Chak-hao ‘Poireiton’ which are quite popular in the state are being cultivated organically. It will be available in the state during the month from December to May every year.

Chak hao rice is traditionally used to prepare desserts like pudding owing to its characteristic taste and aroma.
